Breaking News:

Very early this morning (Sunday August 4, 2024), the DeBary Volunteer Fire Support Team was called out to assist at a residential structure fire in our neighboring city of Deltona, FL. Deltona Fire Rescue. The Orange City Fire Department, as well as the Volusia Sheriff's Office and Volusia County EMS were on scene.
We are saddened that one occupant of the house did not survive the fire despite the best efforts of Deputies, Firefighters, and Paramedics on scene..
In support of our firefighters, 7 of our volunteers responded with our Support Vehicle ("Support 33") to provide rest, cooling, and fluids to the firefighters working the blaze. We are pleased to say that we were able to deploy 2 new pieces of equipment for the hard working crews:
1) We are now carrying 4 "cooling chairs" designed to combat elevated internal body temperatures that result from exposure to heat inside or near a structure fire that is made worse by the weight and insulating properties of the firefighting gear and high ambient temperature and humidity: they actually prevent a firefighter from cooling down after exiting the fire zone. These chairs resemble a folding beach chair, except that the arms have "troughs' that hold chilled water. After removing their outer gear and hood, the firefighter will sit in the chair and immerse their forearms in the water. Research has shown that this helps cool the internal temperature more quickly. The firefighter is able to sit, cool, relax, drink fluids (water and/or sports drinks), and have a small energy snack before suiting back up for a second shift fighting the fire. We got very good feedback from both the people that tried the chairs, and also from the fire officers in charge.
2) We also deployed our portable restroom - a small tent with a portable toilet, which saw its first usage during this deployment.
You can see some photos from this deployment on our Gallery page.

We COULD NOT have done this without the support of 2 terrific DeBary Businesses: O'Leary's Irish Pub and Central 28 Beer Company. Thank you for your support!

The DeBary Volunteer Fire Support Team

Big News!

In order to more accurately represent our purpose and activities in and around the City of DeBary, we have filed a new name (DBA) for our group:

"The DeBary Volunteer Fire Support Team"

We feel that this new name will lessen any confusion between our organization and the City of DeBary Fire Department (which is actually staffed by the Orange City firefighters).

We will be keeping our existing name, "The DeBary Volunteer Firemen's Association", as our overall legal identity.

We thank you all for your continued support!

Originally, the DVFA was organized as the first fire department to serve the area which is now known as the City of DeBary, long before it became a city. We have evolved over the years, but we still exist to serve the citizens and visitors through promotion of Fire Safety Ideals, and through fundraising and other support for the Emergency Responders in the city.

The DeBary Volunteer Firemen's Association is a 501c4 Tax Exempt organization.
