Preventing fires — and knowing exactly what to do when one starts — is the most effective way to protect your family. Here you’ll find the Support Team’s fire-safety resources for DeBary homes, plus our practical guides written for Central Florida.
National Fire Prevention Week
National Fire Prevention Week is observed every October. The week is chosen each year because it includes the anniversary of “The Great Chicago Fire” of 1871. (Yes, that’s the one that was allegedly started by Mrs. O’Leary’s cow.)
2026 theme: NFPA’s Fire Prevention Week for 2026 (October 4–10) focuses on lithium-ion batteries for the second year in a row: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” Read our guide to safe charging of e-bikes, scooters and phones, and explore NFPA’s Fire Prevention Week resources and educational materials.
Each year the Support Team joins DeBary’s firefighters for open houses and community events — in 2023 we welcomed neighbors at the DeBary Fire Station 33 Open House. Watch our events page and Facebook for this year’s dates.

Frequently asked questions
Who do I call in a fire or medical emergency in DeBary?
Always call 911. The DeBary Volunteer Fire Support Team is a volunteer association that supports firefighters; it is not an emergency service.
Can the Support Team give a fire-safety talk to my group?
Yes. Schools, scouts, HOAs, churches, senior communities and businesses can request a fire-safety presentation using the form on our Services page.
When is Fire Prevention Week?
Fire Prevention Week is observed every October during the week of October 9, the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In 2026 it runs October 4–10 with the theme “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”
