Cookie Policy

Which cookies our website uses, why, for how long, and how you can manage your choices through our cookie banner or your browser.

In short: Our website uses only a few cookies, and they are needed to run the shop cart and checkout, keep logged-in accounts working, protect the site, and remember your cookie choices. We do not use advertising cookies, and no analytics tools are installed by default. You can review your choices at any time using the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of every page.

This Cookie Policy explains how The DeBary Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc., doing business as The DeBary Volunteer Fire Support Team (“the Association,” “we,” “us” or “our”), uses cookies and similar technologies on debaryvfa.org (the “Site”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser when you visit. They let the website remember information between pages or visits, such as the items in your shopping cart, whether you are logged in, or the choices you made in a cookie banner. Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called “first-party” cookies. Cookies set by another company’s service embedded in a page are called “third-party” cookies.

Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser (“session cookies”). Others stay in your browser until they expire or you delete them (“persistent cookies”).

Similar technologies, such as browser local storage, can store information in a comparable way. Where we refer to “cookies” in this policy, we include those technologies.

2. How we use cookies

We group cookies into the following categories:

  • Strictly necessary cookies. These are required for the Site to work and to keep it secure. They make the shop cart and checkout function, keep logged-in volunteers signed in, protect the Site through our security firewall, and store your cookie consent choices. Because the Site cannot work properly without them, they do not require consent and cannot be switched off in our cookie banner, although you can block them in your browser (see Section 5).
  • Functional cookies. These remember preferences, such as interface settings for logged-in users. The functional cookies we use are set by WordPress only for people who log in to the Site (generally our volunteers who manage it).
  • Analytics cookies. These would help us understand how visitors use the Site. We do not currently use any analytics cookies, and no analytics tools are installed by default. If we add an analytics tool such as Google Analytics in the future, it will only load after you give consent through our cookie banner, and we will update this policy before doing so.
  • Advertising cookies. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies, and we do not allow advertising networks to track you on our Site.

All of the cookies we use are first-party cookies set by our own website and its software (WordPress, the WooCommerce shop plugin, the Wordfence security plugin and the CookieYes consent tool). The Site’s fonts, scripts and images are hosted on our own server. We do not load Google Fonts, content delivery networks or embedded social media widgets that would place third-party cookies when you simply view our pages.

3. Cookies we use

The table below lists the cookies used on the Site. An asterisk (*) means part of the name varies, for example with a unique code or user number.

Most visitors who simply read our pages will receive only the cookieyes-consent cookie. Shop cookies are set when you add an item to your cart. Login-related cookies are set only for people who log in. Durations are the standard defaults of the software that sets each cookie and may vary slightly with software updates. Wordfence may set other strictly necessary security cookies in limited situations, such as during login protection; if we become aware of any change to the cookies our software sets, we will update this table.

What our security tools record

Separately from cookies, our Wordfence firewall logs visitors’ IP addresses and request information to detect and block attacks, and our forms store your IP address and browser information with each submission to prevent spam and abuse. These are explained in our Privacy Policy.

4. Your consent and how to change it

When you first visit the Site, a cookie banner provided by CookieYes explains our use of cookies and lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies, or customize your choices by category. Your choices are stored in the cookieyes-consent cookie. Because we do not currently use any non-essential cookies, rejecting them will not affect how the Site works.

To change or withdraw your consent at any time, click the “Cookie Settings” link available in the footer of every page. This re-opens the cookie banner so you can review and update your choices. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing based on consent before you withdrew it.

Your choices apply to the browser and device you are using. If you use a different browser or device, or if you clear your cookies, you will be asked again.

5. Controlling cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you see, delete and block cookies, either for all websites or for specific ones. You can usually find these controls in your browser’s settings or privacy menu. Helpful instructions are available from browser makers:

Please note that if you block strictly necessary cookies, some parts of the Site will not work. In particular, you may not be able to add items to your cart or complete checkout in our shop, and logged-in users may not be able to sign in. Our informational pages, forms and safety resources will continue to work. If you have trouble placing an order with cookies blocked, you can order a challenge coin by contacting us directly at [email protected].

6. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track

Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a setting in some browsers and browser extensions that tells websites you do not want your personal information sold or shared. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use advertising cookies. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a choice to reject non-essential cookies and as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information for that browser. We will continue to honor GPC if we ever add non-essential cookies.

Some browsers also send a “Do Not Track” signal. Because we do not track visitors across websites, our practices are the same whether or not this setting is on.

7. Links to other websites

Our Site links to other websites, such as our Facebook page, PayPal, Venmo, and government and safety websites. When you follow those links, the other websites may set their own cookies, which are governed by their own cookie and privacy policies, not this one. We do not control those cookies.

8. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy if we change the tools or plugins used on the Site, add new features, or if the law changes. If we ever add analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will update the table above and ask for your consent before those cookies are set. When we make changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
